Stradbroke Island is a diverse ecological place in time and space.
Situated 40-50km East of Brisbane CBD, yet a lifetime away from city hustle; Stradbroke is one of the most valuable assets in the world. It's majestic landscape dominates people, rather than people dominating the landscape.
It is a magical, mystical and mythological place...
Sit on the headland, supported by ancient rocks, surrounded by diverse trees and shrubs, while kangaroos graze around...
Look seaward and watch whales, dolphins, turtles, manta-rays, birdlife and fish swimming in water and flying through air...
Swim year round, upon her golden-sandy beaches...
Share in the character-rich community of the incredible people who love living in this most astonishingly beautiful location.
Do less or more, Straddie will soon have you under it's spell.
In March 2010, heavy seas swirled in to Point Lookout, (as they so often do on the island) and between customary family visits to the gelati store, I filmed these images, which I often watch to remind me, through the year, of the wonders and wisdoms of Straddie.
It is my wish share these images with others who see beauty in the frames and captured fragments of time.
May they serve as a mindful meditation of the elements from which we are each actually made: earth, fire, air and water.
May it remind us how special it is to have places like Stradbroke. Places that remind us of the simplicity, the complexity and diversity which power the forces of nature.
