the green eye

The Crested Shrike-tit is a very distinctive robust arboreal insectivore, often seen ripping bark off branches to get at juicy grubs. The birds seen here are of the nominate subspecies found in forests and woodlands of southeastern Australia and north Qld. Two other sub-species are described, the second in the far north of the NT/WA and the third in the far west of WA.
