As a concept in Japanese aesthetics, Ma is used as an interval in time and space. It is the space between structural parts that creates unexpected relationships. Ma is a meaningful void, a significant absence, a sensory and sensual space that gives shape to the whole. My piece intends to demonstrate and utilize the Ma philosophy by punctuating the climax of both the visual and musical piece with a silence whose absence is its presence.
