Canadian farmers are facing incredible challenges as they struggle to compete with subsidized produce flooding our supermarkets. Many are struggling to survive and wonder if there is any hope for the next generation to work the land.
Many of the offshore workers employed in the agriculture industry also have small farms back home. Globalization has decimated markets in their home countries so that they can no longer support their families. The rising costs of fertilizer, land, seed and labour have become prohibitive and they cannot compete with the prices that gigantic agribusinesses offer.
