The movie is built from the final layers of a composting photoshop workfile. The resulting image was one of four 3D based illustrations created for the architectural competition Olympic Village Munich 2018 by Munich based architects Allmann Sattler Wappner.
The illustration is built upon a basic 3d picture rendered in C4D/Vray.
Since the animation consists only of final layers, it doesn´t show the work steps done inside the individual layers themselves. So it´s more a kind of a "workflow compression" then a real documentation of the postprocess. Anyhow we had fun to see the image developing this way.
In architectural competitions the timeline is often very short and some essential aspects of the design are still not defined when the work on the images starts: So there is sometimes no time for complicated materials and exhausting light settings in rendering itself.
In such case it´s often more usefull to make a basic rendering and to continue in PS.
This allows to have even more control over the final result. In spite of some changes in design the given timeline can still be kept by processing the modifications (in this case here the shape of the roofs) simultaneously in PS with no need for remodelling or new rendering.
Long PS editing files became so a kind of standard in our competition-imaging (:.
