Featured artists for March and April are Alicia Brown and Elizabeth Shriver from Iowa City along with Corrine Smith of Rock Island.
Brown’s mixed media collages play off of Elizabeth Shriver’s organic ceramic forms. Brown’s work results from layers of paint and paper that are applied and scraped back to reveal glimpses of inner layers.
Shriver’s ceramic pieces are formed through a variety of hand-building methods. She rarely glazes her work, but enhances each piece with stains or colored clays to add visual and tactile interest. Her influences come from plant and undersea life.
Corrine Smith combines several drawings to create a composition, and then layers acrylic paint and handmade papers to the surface of her stretched canvases. Her subject matter is a combination of stylized organic and geometric forms. Her bold and dynamic work is the perfect accessory for any contemporary space.
