1 Timothy 4:6-10 is all about training! Training is mentioned three times in this passage. Have you ever connected training to your relationship with God? In vs. 7 Paul writes, "...train yourself for godliness." As Christians, we train for godliness. That is the gospel goal! If our training becomes the end, then we risk the danger of falling into legalism. Instead, as Paul makes clear, we must keep training in its proper place-as the means. We read the Word and pray to grow closer to Christ and to be conformed more and more to Christ. We read the Word and pray out of love and gratitude for our King. We're not saved by our training, but we are saved to train! What's important to keep in mind is that the deeper we move into Christ and the more we become like Christ, the more glory we bring our King! The increase of awe and imitation leads to more glory for the King! How's your training going? Remember: we train for the King's glory!
