Barcelona, any given day. Only this day was full of ones. You, me, and that other one. Individuals that went out to be part of a collective project where each one of them, through a lens, where supposed to tell a simple story: their own.
One finds this a perfect example of how to act at the micro level of the system, yourself, to interact above the shock therapy we receive by the media regarding todays crisis. Fuck it.
In the middle of this outbusrt of crisis, there's a possibility to create art. Collectively, too. We are starting to play the game of a intercommunicated society making sense out each others preocupations, and that should be aknowledged through a simple narrative were each one of us can take part in it.
There's never been a time where more people are thinking about this global situation and how we can be part of this collective emergence of our social system: earth.
One day on earth, and in my particular case, this "One, two (my gal) and three (Vera): Going from the individual to the colective in times of crisis" symbolizes a path in which filmmaking and art become the way, each of us can follow. In the mean time, this is a local story of Barcelona, and in more intimate way, of our neigbourhood: the gothic quater. This borrougs have been walked by people since the roman times, which makes it espcially symbolic for me, as you feel part of a direct relationship with the common public space in the city, in which social interactions take place.
The streets Ferran and Avinyó generate an intersection from where everything starts and where every path end, at least in this story. It's our home, and from there, on this day we start a journey inside ourselves, to meet the result of our colective emergence at that micro level where one and two meet: love.
Two people in one. That's the experience of leaving your individuality to fuse with the will of the collective. This is the first emmergence we're capable of exploring at the sexual climax of intercourse, and once upon a time, at an inner micro level, the fusion takes place to create a third being from that ultimate expresion of love. Three. Vera.
There's also an intimate relationship between the mother and the child she bears inside. They are the only ones that are two in one at the same time. The undestanding of the collective will always have that biased point of view of each ones experience, culture and genetics, I guess.
In anycase this is the first part of a trilogy of stories from this 11/11/11 in which I make the trip from within, through a lens, to the collective emergence. In this first part, we meet Vera for the first time, in which we, myself and my wife, Meritxell, have a first ecounter in a tridimensional form of a 3D ecography. It was a birthday present for my birthday, wich was the 7th of october (last year we celebrated it on the 10/10/10 filiming the party, and the following hangover day), and it was scheduled for this day. She got it in a discount pack form letsbonnus, or one of this online webpages where you can virtually get anything at a discount price.
This footage is only the edited part of the first part of the trilogy. All three parts have a start and and end at Avinyó street. The first trip goes to the Clinica Delfos, where I meet Meri to take the 3d ecography, and we meet altogheter Vera, our first daughter, for the first time. Then we head back home by metro towards Liceo station, where stop at the Boqueria Market to go to our veggie shop "Peña" before we walk back through the narrow streets of gothic Barcelona.
The language is spoken in spanish, only sometimes there's a mix with catalan.
The other two parts of the day are:
2. The ride from home to "Los Caracoles", an historical restaurant in the mythical Escudellers street, where I go to get fried chicken. I pass by my narrow streets inside of the gothic quarter avoiding the tourist crowds and pass infront of the house where Pepi, Meritxell's mother, lived when she was a child, as I head back home.
3. On the third part, I go out at night towards Plaça Catalunya, where there's a meeting from the 15m movement, the spanish version of the arab spring movement, that started in may, prior to the occupywallstreet, in a global call to go to the plazas. It now all part of the same movement, only each one on their own. In the US it had adquire relevance while in Spain was parked by the presidential election to take place the following sunday the 20th, so the speaches on that day were on that local aspect of the the campaign and what to do for those who did not feel represented by any of the narrow minded proposal of the current politicians.
I made a speech in catalan (me being from Costa Rica, but a catalan,... as this is not based on race nor where you were born, as I see it) on what I believed was the possibility of trying to start the alternative movement at once, by creating a selforganized complex system where we begin to create the commons, and how Barcelona, as the new capital of the mediterraneum, was capable of generating this sort of exercise the way it was selforganized in Plaça Cataluna during the 15m movement. I did not however, filmed my speech as I thought I would look like a bozo holding the megaphone on one hand and the camara on the other one. I'm pretty sure I mentioned the onedayonearth as an example of the collective emergence that we, the people, were capable of generating without the need of anyone elses concent.
Let's start the collective revolution.
unocent.org is our proposal, but we're still on the process of making it happen.
