Public Education is in crisis. The story of DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx New York offers a microcosm of the important role a public high school can play in transforming lives, contributing to our cultural heritage as well as our country's future leadership.
Founded in 1897, Clinton has won national attention for its educational quality, athletic achievements, and the influential legacy of its graduates who have transformed our politics, legal system and cultural environment. This is a story is finally being told in a professional and engaging way.
Filmmakers Danny Schechter, a journalist, and his brother Bill Schechter, an educator and historian, are making what we hope will become THE film on DeWitt Clinton.
Both were editors of the Clinton News. Bill has won honors for excellence in teaching, and Danny was a multiple Emmy Award Winner at ABC News 20/20, and producer of widely seen international documentaries.
They have already interviewed students, teachers and prominent alumni including comedian Robert Klein who is enthusiastically supporting the film.
They are working with two former teachers, Gerard J. Pelisson, and James A Garvey 111, authors of the definitive Clinton story, "The Castle on The Parkway."
This team is now appealing to Clinton alums, and others in a position to help, to support the film with tax deductible donations to The Global Center, PO Box 677, New York. New York. Questions and suggestions to email@example.com
