A three-minute reflection on the call to care for the beauty and goodness of all Creation.
Seasons come and seasons go.
Rainy seasons. Dry seasons.
Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter,
As our planet Earth, our common home, circles the glowing sun.
For the Christian family, September ushers in the Season of Creation,
Creation which is God’s first word.
“The heavens are telling the glory of God
And the firmament shows forth the work of his hands.”
- Psalm 18
This year we are called to ponder the web of life:
"Everything is related, and we human beings are united as brothers and sisters on a wonderful pilgrimage, woven together by the love God has for each creature…”
- Pope Francis LS 92
Because the web of life is fragile and damaged, we earnestly pray:
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature
as we journey towards your infinite light.
- A Prayer for Life, LS 246
Indeed, the heavens tell the glory of God and the firmament shows the work of God’s hands, as do we in our loving care of creation.
How can I grow in a “loving awareness” of my relationship with every creature?
What action can I take to help to repair our web of life?
