Maryna Zastavna, part of the 2019 Rights Reframed cohort, is a Ukrainian communications and outreach consultant. Her project is a “man-on-the-street,” vox pop-style video project that looks at the apathy, lack of knowledge, and, at times, direct hostility Ukrainian human rights organizations face from the public.
Using humor and direct public engagement, Zastavna wanted to better understand just what everyday Ukrainians think (or don’t think) about NGOs in order to help the sector improve how its communicating about its work and to overcome decades of government misinformation. This is her first experience creating a media project.
