Mandarin ducks in Oak Creek, Sedona, Arizona, on Jan. 13, 2012. This was one of two pairs seen on consecutive days, along with wood ducks and mallards that seemed to be regulars on the creek bordering several resorts in the Uptown section of Sedona.
The Mandarins, from East Asia, are not native to the United States and there is speculation that someone has introduced these, possibly in hopes of starting a resident flock. They also may have started as pets that got away or as migrants an introduced flock elsewhere.
