Traumatic stress affects a person in its entirety: psychologically, physically, and in the neurobiology of the brain. During traumatic stress, the brain can react with dissociation. What is dissociation? How does it affect the body/the brain and how does it affect a person on a long-term basis? The Trauma Memory, Flash-Backs, and Fear/Dissociative Reactions are all long-term consequences of trauma.
Furthermore (if I have time!), during an interpersonal and chronically-cumulative trauma (which includes prostitution), the victim develops a relationship with the aggressor. How does this perverse relationship affect the victim’s identity, thoughts, and capacity to defend herself?
Objectives or Takeaway Ideas:
- Understand Dissociation
- Understand the long-term effects of trauma: Trauma Memory, Flash Backs, Fear/Dissociative phenomena.
- Understand Trauma Bonding and its influence on the exit process of prostitution.
