This presentation analyzes the online activity of sex buyers to reveal trends in sex buyer communities, grooming, and extorting for the purpose of sexual exploitation. This includes a review of existing literature combined with an original content analysis of nearly 900 online posts on sex buyer review boards. This presentation will explore the manifestations of hegemonic male bonding, pornographic trophyism, sexual consumer-mentality, and the online migrating patterns of sex buyers after FOSTA-SESTA legislation.
Haley McNamara is the Vice President of Advocacy and Outreach at the National Center on Sexual Exploitation where she develops and executes national campaigns to change policies. Her advocacy work has contributed to policy improvements in the native online advertising, retail, and hotel industries.
She has presented before officials at the United Nations and is a member of the Washington DC Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect. Haley has appeared on, or been quoted in, several outlets including the New York Times, NBC’s The Today Show, BBC News, USA Today, Chicago Tribune, and more. She has a Master of Arts from Johns Hopkins University.
