#WeAreMillions, initially launched online, will now be presented internationally as a public exhibition of support for WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange. Well-known public figures and ordinary supporters alike are standing up for the freedom of the press and against Assange’s extradition. Starting with Bergen, Norway, #WeAreMillions will be presented on all continents, in cities and festivals around the world.
In the exhibit’s first week at Media City in Bergen, the artwork was censored. ENTRA, which owns the building where the portraits were installed, notified the artists that they would need to come down. Other artists in the community, along with groups supporting free expression, condemned the censorship, and following public outcry, ENTRA reversed its decision and the exhibit was reinstated.
Now that the portraits have returned to the walls, we invite you to a discussion on Assange, on a free press, and on the freedom to express your support for the imprisoned publisher.
