High School seniors Mollie Brothers, Georgia Merkle and Mackenzie Kraft, as well as juniors Jose Serna and Maddie Kraft are members of the FFA Chapter at Normal Community High School in Normal, IL. Disheartened by the struggles dairy farmers continue to face with low milk prices, they also learned milk is often requested, but rarely donated to local shelters and food banks. The group decided to create a nationwide FFA challenge that would change the trend. Through their work, the #FFA10GallonChallenge generated social awareness around the dairy industry's ongoing concerns and prompted a viral movement that engaged 300 FFA chapters across the United States. When the challenge was complete, their idea had initiated the donation of 3,000 gallons of milk to numerous shelters in need.
