Achieving quality education in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal
4 requires providing students and teachers with sufficient teaching and learning materials.
This session will discuss the scarcity of learning materials in African schools, the issues it
causes for the region, and potential solutions for reaching the goal of a textbook for every
child. It will draw from the varied successes of African countries including free textbook
programs and market-based interventions to make textbooks cheaper.
