Hod Nelson was born in Palermo, Maine in 1843. With his move to Waterville, Maine in 1882 and the foaling of Nelson 4209, Hod became one of the most famous horsemen of his time. The horse was crowned the King of the Stallions and given the title, "The Northern King." Nelson lived a checkered life -- there was both good and bad. Sadly, he made poor decisions in his personal life and in his business. He married Emma Aubine Jones in 1867. She was loyal to her husband to the very end. The horse died in 1909. Hod died in 1915 -- Emma in 1916.
