Every Year in January a scultpure and art event called Driftwood and Sand take splace on Hokitika Beach. It is a great chance for travellers, locals and artists to be creative using materials found on the beach. This grass roots event is run by a group of keen volunteers and receives very little funding and financial support. This event is a great example of Hokitika's vibrant Art and Craft scene.
This year a grave for John Key caused some controversy on the beach.
