At a loss for communication, a young man accompanies his stoic traditional Chinese grandfather-in-law to visit a loved one’s grave.
[Artistic Statement]
Through this film, I hope to juxtapose the richness of Chinese culture against the substantially younger Chinese-Canadian experiences. Just as the older man remains nostalgic for his homeland, even if it is just fleeting, the younger man finds himself at ease within the only environment he has ever known. Knowing the history of his people, and the profound depths of feeling expressed by their greatest poets, the older man considers the environment around him in a wholly different light from his companion, seeing reminders of home more and more as he speaks the poem aloud.
