This was my piece for the live Cut and Paste competition in Portland, Oregon on March 7. The competition was a live 4-way duel between four motion graphics designers. We had eight hours start to finish to make a :15 motion graphics piece. We were allowed to bring our audio and four pre-made assets. I brought a video clip, a picture of Portland, and a picture of Mt. Hood.
The theme was "reflections" and my idea was a set of hypothetical "what ifs", which of course happened to be true about Portland. They what ifs are about the rain, Powell's City Of Books, Stumptown Coffee, Zoombombing, Mount Hood, and Keep Portland Weird.
I shot the footage on a DVX-200, tracked it in Syntheyes, and animated in Lightwave 3D and After Effects.
Special thanks to Grant Herald for the music track:
Many thanks also to the fine fellows at amplitudemedia.com for use of the camera.
In the end, my piece won, and it looks like I'll be headed to NY in June for the Cut and Paste Finals.
