I spent a couple of hours shooting with the just announced Sony PXW-FX9, Sony's really quite impressive full frame video camera that is a new FS7 in all but name. .
Other than the full frame it has a few key features. First up is superb autofocus, although the camera lacks a touch screen LCD which would help things a lot with operation. Canon did this with the C300 Mk II back in the day too.
We have a superb profile called S-Cinetone, which this is all shot in. Its just gorgeous. Thirdly is the electronic on sensor variable ND.
Anyway, this isn't a review. I hope at some point I can get the camera for longer and do some proper testing. For now here is a little edit of the footage I shot on that afternoon last Friday. The lenses I used are listed. I don't know the ISO am afraid for most of the shots as I kept changing it but the 12,800 are listed.
This is all straight out of camera, no colour correction, no lifting of exposure. It is what it is. You can download a 4K ProRes 422 version of this from my blog as well as a native clip of the girl dancing. philipbloom.net/blog/fx9
Thanks to Linford Miles for the stills, to Sony for inviting me and to Nino and Emmanuele who are stars in this video!
