After 23 years The Vertical World (America’s First Climbing Gym) built a world class climbing facility with 55ft lead walls, extensive bouldering, core exercise room, an event room and more. Listen to owner Rich Johnston talk about how it came to be, what it took and what the end goal was.
The creation of a state of the art climbing facility equipped with 5000 sq. ft. of dedicated lead walls (50 feet tall that is), 5000 sq. ft. of bouldering (up to 16 feet tall), and 10,000 sq. ft. of top rope walls (40 feet tall). All this combined with a mezzanine holding exercise equipment as well as a stellar vantage point of the entire gym. The goal is to maximize climbing terrain while keeping a nice open feel that will be comfortable to hang out and watch the action even during the biggest competitions.
