This is the sixth in a series of brief videos on how to use Autodesk Maya to create animated projects. Each video is meant to explain a basic concept, rather than a complete step by step on how to build a model. In this video, we look at a few basic NURBS modeling tools that can be used to make a saguaro cactus. We use lofting, extrusion, and projection to make the basic form of the cactus, and use the sculpting tool to widen the base of the cactus. We see that NURBS modeling is all about creating curves and sweeping them through 3-space to create surfaces, as well as reshaping the surfaces we create.
