Early in 2019, MSF responded to a request to send a team to Baringo county in Kenya to investigate a spike in people being bitten by snakes. The team confirmed an increase in number of snakebite cases, deaths and complications in the recent past, especially in Tiaty Sub-County. They also identified several gaps in the availability of timely and effective treatment including a lack of antivenom and expertise in treating people with snakebite. A response initiative was developed including the provision of antivenom and support for health care workers and volunteers to provide effective treatment.
