I made this film in Rick Watkins house, while I was house sitting for him over the 2005 winter break. The toys are his daughter's, who was one or two at the time.
The shooting happened in one night. I just set up the camera on a tripod and lights, then acted, etc. All of the editing happened the following morning, except for some touch ups on the contrast in the outside scene. That scene was shot after 3 in the morning, and I wondered while making it whether any neighbors were watching, but I don't think anyone was.
The music once again is Phil Elverum's. I've used his music a lot, perhaps too much. Sometimes I rely too much on it for the interest and don't use my own mind and thoughts to create an environment, a place, or ideas.
I've been recording my dreams for the past six months, and this weekend I want to make a long list of every dream that I've written down. I want to use these dreams as the basis for some of my next movies.
I shot the Break pt 2 with Matt Iverson in 2006. This uses the same characters, and I still have the footage, which I should edit together.
It seems to me like instability helps the creative process at times, or as one person says 'turbulence in the mind' stirs things up.
