In honor of *Heart Month* and St. Valentine's Day here in the States--or LOVE MONTH as I prefer to call it--I chose three of my published *Love Poems* to read for the "Poetry--Live and Out Loud!" open mic event at the Toledo Public Library's Main Branch downtown on Tuesday, February 7, 2012.
Rebecca Stanwick (a graduate student at the University of Toledo and resident poetry *go-to* at the Main Library's Humanities Dept.) graciously hosted and emceed the event, where poets from all across the Greater Toledo area came to display some of their finest poetic expressions for a very enthusiastic crowd.
I wrote "With Pure Intent" on November 1st, 2006, while living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida; during a very challenging time in my life, when I was still struggling to come to grips with having recently been diagnosed with a chronic illness. Like many of my love poems, this piece speaks to the journey on which romantic love sometimes takes us--often quite unexpectedly, but also just as auspiciously--towards finding the love we must all discover for ourselves through the process of healing, eventually.
