Dr. Peter Fadde presents the Education Division "Best Paper" from the 2010 Industry/Inter-service Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC). Dr. Fadde's describes research in sports science that shows expert performers have the ability to anticipate an opponent's actions based on early-occuring visual cues. The sport science research, including Dr. Fadde's research on baseball pitch recognition, suggests that perceptual-cognitive skills can be trained to expert levels using video alone. The implication is that mobile and inexpensive video training on a laptop computer can supplement and sometimes replace whole-task simulator-based training.
