In 2011 theatre practitioner Paul Hine and filmmaker Gino Evans brought to life the heritage of the Weavers’ Triangle with a piece of unique multi-media site-specific promenade theatre. Young people from Blessed Trinity RC College and Burnley Youth Theatre worked together to set the scene, and transported audiences back in time with smoke, mirrors, and even some more modern technology...! This documentary was part of the project.
Through finding out about the history of their town the young people leading the project wanted to explore what made their area unique and encourage the community to celebrate their heritage.
A week-long series of research visits, workshops and rehearsals culminated with performances on Saturday 20th August 2011 in an empty Mill building off Trafalger Street in Burnley.
The group were also invited to perform an extract from the piece for Prince Charles when he visited Burnley in October 2011, he certainly seemed to enjoy it!
During the research for the performance we asked the people of Burnley what 'Burnley Is' to them.
Project Pride was supported by Heritage Lottery Fund Young Roots.
