When the West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) decided to invest in energy efficiency measures that would lower energy costs at its multifamily buildings, management contacted the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). WSFSSH is non-profit organization that provides affordable housing for older people in a supportive community. Through NYSERDA’s Multifamily Performance Program (MPP) in 2007 and the Federal Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) in 2011, WSFSSH received incentives totaling over $510,000 for their Red Oaks Apartments in Manhattan. With 231 apartments at Red Oaks, this amounts to over $2,200 in incentives per unit.
