Francisco Paco Carrascosa
‘Black & White’ with Friends (2008 bis 2018)
Photographs. Artist’s edition
‘These seven volumes by Paco Carrascosa – are redolent with a powerful smell of life.’ (Urs Stahel)
What is the natural world today? The photographs in these volumes by Francisco Paco Carrascosa follow animals and their tracks through the human world. He captures lapdogs and chamois, Bambi motifs and tiger prints, and sparrows – over and over again. The sparrows interrupt the rhythm of the narrative; they comment and create pauses, like the chorus in a Greek tragedy.
As a ‘paparazzo of everyday life’, Carrascosa directs his amateur camera towards the “fleeting, coincidental, fragmentary and transitory” (Sascha Renner). The telephoto lens creates an aesthetic of its own, while the zoom allows an unobstructed view of the subject. The details are highlighted and carefully arranged into sequences, condensing into an epic without beginning or end.
‘When everyday life becomes an Animal Farm’. (Urs Stahel)
After Johnnie Walker on the beach (published in 2014), a homage to the people he photographs, the second part of the trilogy is now available: 'Black & White' and Friends continues the photographic pictorial narrative in book form. Part three, Jack Daniels and Mister Freud, will be dedicated to night-time and twilight. The long-term project spans ten years. The result is to gauge what it is to be human – today and right now and per se. “An intensive, endless flow of looking.” (Francisco Paco Carrascosa)
