Through an open letter, Haitians express their feelings about the Cholera outbreak facing their country. This epidemic was caused by United Nations peacekeepers, a fact the organization openly admits.
Our client, the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti, is suing the United Nations for spreading Cholera to Haiti and infecting hundreds of thousands of people. The UN has absolute immunity in Haitian Courts, so the Haitian plaintiffs are seeking accountability in an ad hoc UN claims tribunal.
We created a set of videos for social media distribution to create public pressure on the UN to provide a remedy for the Cholera epidemic quickly, by installing water treatment facilities in the affected villages, paying compensation to direct victims, and apologizing. This is the short piece that we used to launch our Fight the Outbreak! Campaign.
