The project aims to build the capacity for diocesan youth services, youth organisations and movements to understand and respond appropriately to the mental health issues relevant to Catholic young people today. It will conduct research into stress, anxiety and desire for happiness among young Catholics, and the impact of these on their mental health, including the extent to which this is influenced by faith.
A toolkit of resources will then be produced, written by youth ministry professionals, to enable communities to respond to the findings.
The project is ultimately designed to serve young people and those caring for them, particularly young people suffering from stress and more serious mental health issues.
The research will be carried out by a member of the Catholic Youth Ministry Federation research team with focus groups of young people in either a variety of locations across England and Wales or in one diocese as part of a pilot study.
