The Batavia Bridge (Bataviabrug) in Ghent, Belgium connects two residential areas via a pedestrian/bike bridge with a unique feature: the bridge raises and lowers for small boats and crafts while you are crossing it! Bicyclists and pedestrians do not have to wait for the operation, they may continue to use it while the bridge every so slightly increments to allow the water crafts to pass under.
