NEO NORTE 2.0
Exhibition where a Latin American collective invite to re-think who determines the North. Private view: 10th of September 6pm at Exposed Arts Projects.
‘It has been two centuries, twice a hundred years since independence and nonetheless the vestiges of colonisation still remain...’ comments Tere Chad, the curator of Neo Norte. Neo Norte is an exhibition that proposes the south as the new north. The show opens up the debate about the dominance of Eurocentric curatorial practices, and how this impact cultures that remain behind. The proposal reflects about why, at times, there appears to exist a pejorative against Latin American art. In response, Neo Norte invites to a dialogue of ethnic, folkloric, and western artworks in the same space.
The artworks showcased during this exhibition are inspired by broad topics, such as: cultural syncretism, migrations as creative destructions that can open doors for new opportunities, shamanism from a Pre-Columbian and western perspective, and last but not least, the contrast between digital and physical materiality in the old and the new continent.
Neo Norte was presented for the first time in August 2018 at the Fundación Cultural de Providencia, Santiago, Chile. Now it will be displayed for the second time at Exposed Arts Projects, located at 4-6 Drayson Mews, Kensington, London W8 4LY (close to High Street Kensington tube station). It will form part of a series about ‘Empowerments’ exhibited at this space. The private view takes place on the 10th of September at 6pm. Afterwards the show will open to the public until October 22nd.

Exposición donde un colectivo de artistas latinoamericanos invita a repensar quien determina el Norte, la muestra inaugurará el 10 de septiembre a las 18hrs en Exposed Arts Projects.
‘Ya son dos siglos, dos veces cien años de independencia y a pesar de ello la huella de la colonia aún queda...” comenta Tere Chad la curadora de Neo Norte, una muestra que propone al sur como el nuevo norte. Esta exhibición abrirá un debate sobre la dominancia de curadurías eurocéntricas y como ello repercute sobre las culturas que permanecen a la trastienda. La propuesta reflexiona acerca de por qué en ocasiones existe un peyorativo en torno hacia el arte latinoamericano y en respuesta invita a dialogar en un mismo espacio obras de artes que hablan desde una perspectiva étnica, folclórica y occidental.
Las obras expuestas estarán inspiradas en un gran abanico de temáticas, tales como: el sincretismo cultural, la migración como destrucción creativa que abre nuevas oportunidades, el chamanismo desde una perspectiva precolombina y lo occidental, y por último el contraste entre lo natural versus la materialidad digital en el viejo y nuevo continente.
Neo Norte fue presentado por primera vez en agosto de 2018 en la Fundación Cultural de Providencia, Santiago de Chile. Ahora se presentará por segunda vez en el Centro Cultural Exposed Arts Projects, ubicado en 4-6 Drayson Mews, Kensington, Londres W8 4LY (cerca de la estación de metro High Street Kensington), formando parte la seria de ‘Empoderamientos’, correspondiente al programa anual del espacio. El día de la inauguración será el 10 de septiembre a las 18hrs y luego permanecerá abierta hasta el 22 de octubre.
