This morning, Rev. Moore preaches from the Gospel of Mark chapter 1 verses 40 thru 45. Rev. Moore focuses his sermon around Jesus' feeling of pity for the leper in the text. He explains that in early Jerusalem, "leprosy" was really just a state of uncleanness, not a diagnosis. And furthermore, to be unclean in early Jewish culture was to be a figure cast out of society and thus ignored. Rev. Moore continues explaining that the "pity" of Jesus in the Greek could more appropriately be translated as compassion for the injustice the leper suffered. Recorded Feb. 12, 2012 from the pulpit of Mayflower Congregational UCC Church in Oklahoma City.
