Joost van Ginkel worked as a freelance television maker for more than 12 years and wrote filmscripts on the side in his spare time. He produced his first short film ZAND (2008) by himself. ZAND was selected for the Venice Film Festival, won 13 international awards and became the Dutch submission for the Oscars. His second short film KUS (2009) was selected for the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival.
