The inhabitants of the Azorean islands are a travelling people. They travel to connect with the world. They travel to survive. They travel to free themselves from the seclusion of the island’s limits. Yet, they cannot get away without, days or years later, yearning to be back home - in Azores.
Writers Joel Neto (himself an azorean who returned home) and Catarina Ferreira de Almeida, along with director-anthropologist Arlindo Horta, set out, in the summer 2018, to interview 14 azorean migrants across several islands in the Azores and in the United States, to speak about their feelings of belonging, the real and the imagined ways by which they return to what is perceived as their homeland.
This is a film about how people find their way home in multiple and meandering modes.
