On Sept. 18th and 19th, the SavageMan Triathlon will take place at Deep Creek, Maryland. The race has been listed in the top 100 best races in the March 2010 issue of Triathlete Magazine. This race is infamous for the 31% grade climb know as the Westernport Wall. Many participants have fallen of their bicycles while attempting to climb this intimidating hill. After the wall, athletes continue to face the non-stop climbs of western Maryland on the bike and on the run. This triathlon is extreme and is legitimately the toughest 56 mile bike in triathlon. But this triathlon has a much deeper meaning then pushing athletes to their limits.
The SavageMan Triathlon supports skin cancer research and raises awareness. Check out the following alarming statistics.
-One in five Americas develop skin cancer.
-Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the U.S.
