We are growing vegetation on a hillslope. The shape of the hillslope is straight in the downslope direction and concave in the planar direction. The The ridge is on the right, the valley is on the left. Flow and nutrients are constantly added along the right face (the ridge) and flow downslope. There is nutrient uptake when vegetation grows and nutrient release when vegetation dies. At t=o the hilslope is seeded with small amounts of random vegetation. We see the development of vegetation stripes which show retrograde motion up the hillslope. The number of grid cells used in this simulation is 10,000. The pattern show is close to the pattern Klausmaier showed in his 1999 Science paper.
