Where Can I Live - A Story of Gentrification

Where Can I Live - A Story of Gentrification

Erik Lewis

Where Can I Live tells the story of neighborhood activists who organized to stem the tide of gentrification that began transforming Park Slope, Brooklyn from a mixed working class neighborhood with many single-room occupancy boarding houses to a middle and upper class enclave. The 1983 film, which was broadcast on WNET Channel/Thirteen and unfortunately is still very relevant in the new millennium, explores both the nitty-gritty organizing techniques of residents and the economics and philosophy of gentrification itself in wide-ranging interviews with developers, city planners and organizers.
