for soprano sax and live audio processing
"Bird Fetish" is a notated index of soprano saxophone sounds. I choose sequences of sound-modules to play in any order. The purpose of this somewhat aleatoric approach is to objectify the structure of a composition by presenting it in a non-heirarchical form.
Pointedly I. is an attempt to canonize several improvisations I performed on soprano saxophone.
It makes use of several processes mostly related to the "felt" tempi of the gestural improvisations. With the improvs bearing an implied pulse, I'm attempting to subvert the presence of perceivable time by converging (and diverging) from this felt tempi. The result is a slew of fugal "conversations" in which several host themes form a reference point for other contrapuntal lines.
Both the audio and video was processed live in max/msp and jitter.
