Bruce Daisley’s days are often very hectic. As the European boss of Twitter, he has to check in with people all over the world. ‘It is easy to see yourself tapping out emails at eleven o’clock in the evening.’ After coming close to a burn-out, he now makes sure he takes his lunch breaks and creates downtime. And not just for himself, but also for his 200 staff. Part of the cure is increased autonomy, ‘silent-meetings’, and a twice-yearly ‘hack-week’ when employees put down their work and dedicate their time to brainstorming.
