Innovation is a Wicked Problem
The challenge with innovation is that it cannot thrive in businesses that use linear and rational forms of management. Innovation is a wicked problem. The wickedness of innovation is not just about difficulty. Innovation challenges are a totally different class of problem that is often hard to define and has no single best solution. These characteristics defy all forms of rational management. This talk will attempt to describe the nature of innovation's wickedness and present the different ways that companies could potentially manage the innovation process.
Tendayi Viki is an author and corporate innovation expert. He helps companies innovate for the future while managing their core business. He has written two books; The Corporate Startup and The Lean Product Lifecycle, and is working on his third, Right Question, Right Time. He previously served as Director of Product Lifecycle at Pearson, where he co-developed an innovation framework that won the Best Innovation Program 2015 at the Corporate Entrepreneur Awards in New York. Tendayi has been shortlisted for the Thinkers50 Innovation Award and was named on the Thinkers50 2018 Radar List for emerging management thinkers to watch.
