The Bay Lights Cinema Snowglobe, a collaboration with renowned artist Leo Villareal, transforms the twinkling Bay Lights of San Francisco into a tiny, immersive, magical experience. Like a traditional snow globe, one picks one up and shakes it, and the patterns and lights of the Bay Lights unfold before one’s eyes.
The Cinema Snowglobe was first featured at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and has won multiple awards since its introduction, including the German Design Award 2019, Ars Electronica Selection 2019, and the New Technology Art Award as one of the top art + technology artworks worldwide. Due to the magic of interactive technology, they are activated just like the old ones—you pick it up and shake it—and, seemingly like magic, a scene appears and unfolds before your eyes.
