Our first rotoscoping project at Dryden was accomplished by a group of hard working 3rd grade girls. They spend 3 months of recesses drawing over 75 images using FLASH software on the computer. They used the interactive whiteboard to trace with their finger each of the stills from their video clip to make this little masterpiece.
Their classmates started to want to learn too, so they would bring one classmate per day to art and train them how to draw in FLASH so that by the time the project was complete each class member had an opportunity to draw a frame.
The success of this project gave me the confidence to try it again, but this time with ipads. View my students working on their collaborative rotoscope project here:
