The story unfolds in the small town of Berry in 1943, Elaine Asher (Appleton) waits at her quaint country home for her husband Colin to return from fighting in the war overseas.
She lives with her sister Theresa (Emily Hopkins) who one day decides to take a trip downtown, only to return and find Elaine has been murdered in the vegetable garden. From there, Detective Myles Buckley (Hockey) attempts to solve the puzzling case with his trusty companion Sergeant Fellowes (Desmond Bahnert).
A main suspect, and the victim’s brother in-law, Joseph (William Hall) is eventually taken into questioning, but what will Buckley decide to do when new evidence is brought to light? The story concludes at the scenic location known as Hitchcock’s lane (filmed on location at the beautiful ‘Berrinbah’ estate).
