Join Heinz Traut, Red Squirrel Conservation Office for Red Squirrels Northern England as he talks about the Countryside Stewardship grant scheme for England. The scheme scheme is a feasible means by which to fund red squirrel conservation and grey squirrel control activities and pays woodland managers an annual woodland improvement amount of £100/ha for 5 years to meet a list of environmental improvement objectives. To the newcomer these ‘prescriptions’ and the application process may seem unnerving. However, with some guidance the undertaking becomes less daunting and the benefits clearer. The webinar provides a brief overview of the CS woodland grant scheme; the application process; which environmental improvements it desires/encourages (but importantly, which objectives are relevant to you); the capital item grants that you can include in your application (e.g. nest boxes, fencing, gates, infrastructure/roads etc.) and briefly touch on the application’s scoring process.
