The Artist in Dialogue Program had an early start in 2012 with its first guest, a travelling artist, Klaus Fruchtnis. As a photographer and digital artist, Klaus put forth his experience as an international exhibitor. Describing an artistic baggage composed of individual and collaborative projects, Klaus started out by introducing the backdrops to the main theme of the afternoon, a collaborative project titled “Cross Urban”.
While convening a large group of attendees that included the general public, colleagues and friends, the dialogue took place with the presence the co-collaborators, Cynthia Lawson and Estefanía Sokoloff, photographer and curator respectively. During the dialogue, multiple questions were enunciated about the methodology of the “Cross Urban”, the creative and personal motivations behind Cynthia and Klaus’ work as well as some logistic details necessary for the execution of this project.
Through images and quotes regarding this creative collective process, Klaus related the different experiences “Cross Urban” has encountered. Such as the use of urban public spaces and the interactivity of the web, complemented by an academic and socializing agenda; the execution of a self-published book; and utilizing exhibition mechanisms characteristic of a contemporary work of art, enabling it to be “domesticated” for its marketing. This event was held at the Galería Nueveochenta.
