North American Frontline Delegations to COP25 in Madrid, Spain, and to the Cumbre de los Pueblos in Santiago, Chile
The 25th annual UN climate negotiations, the Conference of Parties (COP25) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, is taking place from December 2-13, 2019 in Madrid, Spain. Climate Justice Alliance will be on the ground to participate in inside and outside actions and events, together with international social movement groups, as part of the It Takes Roots delegation. We will bring to light the flaws of the Paris Agreement, and push for higher ambitions and real enforceable actions.
COP25 was initially scheduled to take place in Santiago, Chile. However, a massive popular uprising against neoliberalism, that started in Santiago, caused the Chilean government to move COP25 to Spain. We are standing with the Chilean social movements, who continue the resistance in the face of police repression and violence. We will go to Chile, to join them in the streets, and to take part in the Cumbre de los Pueblos, to build an alternative to the extractive systems of production and consumption, which have caused climate change.
In both in Chile and Spain, our delegations will elevate the rights of Indigenous Peoples and community solutions from the frontlines.
